Constitution Pipeline to be Topic at the August 8th Citizen Voices Meeting
08/02/2012 - Representatives of the Constitution Pipeline and Leatherstocking Gas Company will be our guests at the next Citizen Voices Meeting. This meeting is open to the public and will be Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at 8am at The Carriage House, Oneonta, NY. The Constitution Pipeline will be the area of discussion.
This pipeline has the potential to assist greatly in the economic stability of the region and to spur economic growth.
The Constitution Pipeline is being designed to transport natural gas that has already been produced in Pennsylvania. There are more than 4,500 miles of transmission pipe already operating in New York, transporting natural gas from production areas to market. The Constitution Pipeline is not dependent upon nor does it require the development of new natural gas wells along the project's proposed path. The pipeline is already fully contracted with longterm commitments from established natural gas producers currently operating in Pennsylvania.
The proposed route is part of a study corridor and is subject to change. It attempts to maximize opportunities to co-locate with existing corridors (power transmission lines, road right-of-way, I-88 corridor and existing pipeline corridors), while avoiding watersheds and aqueduct tunnels.
The proposed route avoids populated areas where possible, while minimizing impacts to wetland, riparian and other high value wildlife habitat areas. The route also minimizes river and stream crossings to reduce environmental impact.
The Carriage House is located on 790 Southside Drive, Oneonta NY. Driving directions: 1.8 miles East on Rt 23 from the intersection at Lettis Arterial. Turn Right on Karns Road, just past Otsego Auto Crushers which is on the left. Karns Road dead ends, turn Right. The Carriage House is 500' on the left.
While the event is open to the public, reservations are requested. Please RSVP to CitizenVoices@hotmail.com.
