CORNELL COOPERATIVE EXTENSIONS PROGRAMS & STAFF AT DELAWARE COUNTY FAIR -- August 13-18, 2012 DELAWARE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS, WALTON

08/09/2012 - Are you looking for something fun and exciting to do while at the Delaware County Fair? Then come on down to the 4-H Youth Building. This year, we have a wide assortment of activities and visuals for all to enjoy: Come on in and enjoy our "new" Animal Tracks Activity Center. Young and old alike can enjoy the fun of creating wild animal footprints in our sand pits. You can also take a trivia challenge and check your knowledge of which tracks belong to which wild animal.

When you've had your fill of tracks be sure to head over to our milk mustache station. Families large and small can be fitted with the perfect milk mustache and pose for a picture that can be picked up after being printed and become a lasting memento of their fun times at the Delaware County Fair. Remember milk does the body good!

For the young, and young at heart, delve into some exciting and interesting projects. This year we feature Bubble Magic, Amazing Lava Lamps, and GAK.

Two items that are continuously happening all day, every day are public presentations and baby chicks hatching. Come in, have a seat, and watch 4-H youth present their public presentations; there are a wide range of topics and maybe you'll learn something new! In the middle of our building is a chick hatching area. Bring your children and see each stage of a baby chick. Everyone enjoys watching these cute, fluffy, peeping orbs of feathers!

On your way in or even on the way out of our building be sure to stop and take a chance on our 4-H Teen Council Quilt to benefit Delaware County 4-H Teen Council. This year, our 4-H youth and their families pieced the quilt together with the guidance of Joan Dewing. This year's quilt is called "Star Formation." Carol Davis, owner of A Quilt of Many Colors, Walton donated all the fabric and batting necessary for the quilt and Joan Dewing of Dewing's Quilts and Sew Much More, Walton donated her time, expertise and all the thread needed. A HUGE THANK YOU to Joan, Carol, and all the other volunteers for their continuous support of Delaware County 4-H!

Don't forget to check out our numerous 4-H projects and displays. 4-Hers and their leaders/families have worked hard all year to create these items and are delighted to present them for all to see. Don't miss seeing the 4-H exhibits that have been chosen to represent Delaware County at the New York State Fair. These are the best-of-the-best exhibits and you won't want to miss seeing them.

Don't be afraid to ask 4-Hers or leaders questions about 4-H and its unlimited possibilities, 4-H shapes youth for life! Become involved!
