03/30/2012 - Since a February workshop was filled to capacity, Cornell Cooperative Extension in Delaware County is again offering a beginner beekeeping workshop on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Delaware County Resource Center, Cooperative Extension, 34570 State Highway 10, Hamden.
George Jersey, owner of Wild Mountain Apiaries in Coldbrook, NY, will cover a hobbyist's first year of beekeeping, including how to purchase and transport bees, bee identification, introducing your new bees to their new home, hive location, pest and disease management, hive components, harvesting and preparing your hives for winter.
The fee for the program is $20 per person. Registration and payment are required by April 9th. To register, send a check made payable to Cornell Cooperative Extension and mail to: P.O. Box 184, Hamden, NY 13782. Write "beekeeping" on the check and include a phone number. Beverages and light snacks will be provided but participants should bring a bag lunch. Class size will be limited so register early!
