CANCER SURVIVORS CELEBRATE LIFE AT AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE
Cancer Survivors in Delaware County Invited to Unite and Celebrate Life
04/13/2012 - The American Cancer Society invites those inspiring individuals in Delaware County who have won the fight against cancer to join Relay For Life April 27. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Delhi American Legion, 40 Page Ave., Delhi.
Relay For Life is an event to honor the survivors, and pay tribute to those who have lost their battles with cancer. It is an opportunity for survivors to unite and join in the American Cancer Society's goal to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, and walk or run around a local track "relay" style to fight cancer. Funds raised through the event support cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services in the community. Cancer survivors are invited to celebrate their triumph over cancer by participating in an inspirational "Survivors' Lap" to open Relay For Life. After the lap, survivors will be able to honor their caregivers by walking a lap with them. After the opening ceremony, survivors who register are invited to partake in a dinner, which will be prepared by Betsy Gielskie of DeLancey. Each survivor also receives a T-shirt.
To register, go to the website www.relayforlife.org/delhiNY or contact Christina Viafore at 607-746 3550 or email email@example.com. People are invited to honor survivors or those who have succumbed to the disease by purchasing luminaries, which will be lit about 9 p.m. during a moving luminary ceremony. You can purchase a luminary on the website, from a Relay For Life team member or during the event.
