NYCAMH "FARMSAFE FOR KIDZ" 2012 Poster Contest Winners Announced
07/19/2012 - The 2012 FARMSAFE FOR KIDZ Poster winners were announced July 10, at the annual Farmers' Museum Junior Show held in Cooperstown. First place winners (blue ribbons) and second place winners (red ribbons) received gift checks in the amounts of $30 and $20, respectively. All participants, 20 in total, received a small gift of a NYCAMH Hat for their artistic farm safety efforts. The poster contest is sponsored each year by NYCAMH (the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine & Health) through the
George Fuller Memorial Fund and this year was co-sponsored by Reality Check, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Reality Check is a youth led, adult supported tobacco control movement committed to exposing the truth about the manipulative marketing strategies used by the tobacco industry to target teens.
This year's judges were Samantha Park, Melissa Horsman, and Andy Meyers. Contest Coordinators were Rosemary Brodersen and Lindsey Cairo. Category topics for the contest are based on farm injuries/fatalities reported in New York State, with this year's topic entitled "Power Take Off Safety". Winners were as follows:
8 years old and Under

2nd Place – Aiden Ainslie, Herkimer
9-12 years old
1st Place – Austin Ainslie, Herkimer
2nd Place – Robert Opalka, Montgomery
13 and older
1st Place – Victoria Opalka, Montgomery
2nd Place – Ty Palmatier, Delaware
All winning posters will be on display at NYCAMH in Fly Creek during July and August. Winning posters will be displayed at the Farmers' Museum Harvest Festival Sept. 15 and 16.
